Face Lifting

A face lift, (technically also known as wrinkle resection) as a primary purpose is done in order to give a youthful appearance to the face and neck.

As we get older, our skin feels the effects of gravity, exposure to sunlight, the stress of everyday life and as such our skin begins to "hang" and our wrinkles become more intense. With this surgical method we can correct the contour of the face and neck.

Can it be combined with other surgical techniques?

Facial lifting can be done alone or with other surgical techniques such as:

  • Forehead lift
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Rhinoplasty

What is the Surgical procedure?

During the operation, in addition to removing the excess skin, the muscles of the face and neck are straightened and tightened. The incisions start behind the hairline on the temples, in front of and behind the ear and end up in the hair again.

What is the duration of Surgery?

The surgery lasts about 2-3 hours or more if combined with other techniques. It is done under general anesthesia or mild sedation.

How many days can one stay in the clinic?

One can return home the same day if allowed by Dr. Andreas Ioannidis and of course if the general condition of the patient is very good otherwise it is recommended to stay in the clinic on the first day.

What should the care post-surgery consist of?

Good skin quality helps a lot in the postoperative course, recovery and final result. Important to note that smokers are advised to quit as it helps the skin heal faster. In the first days after the surgery, the patient ought to stay at home, moisturize the face with special medical products and not lift weights for at least two weeks. The pain is usually minimal and can be controlled with painkillers recommended by the Doctor. The sutures will be removed gradually within 2 weeks after.

What’s the next step after the surgery?

After 10 days one can use makeup on the incisions. In 2 weeks post operation, the patient may feel ready to be back among people.

When do the incisions leave?

It is possible that in the first few weeks after surgery the skin around the ear is numb and slightly red, which is perfectly normal. The incisions gradually recede and return completely.
